Introduction
There appear to have been some wineries in the region towards the end of the nineteenth century run by settlers from Dalmatia, which won medals at the Sydney Wine Show. However the modern-day pioneer of the region was Peter Robertson who, together with his family established the Barwang vineyard in 1975. There are now over 400 hectares under vines.

Primary Wine Styles

Semillon
Barwang founder Peter Robertson produced several impressive late harvest Semillons, but at present the weight is on dry table styles. The wines are commanding, with exceptional mid-palate weight.

Chardonnay
Chardonnay's are typically lean and elegant, with citrus and melon flavours and gives the notion that they will age well for five years or more.

Shiraz
Best suited to the region, the aromas and flavours are complex, gently spicy, with an assortment of chocolate, mint, and black cherry characters. Acidity is ample and the tannins integrated.

Cabernet Sauvignon
Similar to the Shiraz, a commanding wine, yet neither aggressive nor heavy. The flavours are predominantly cassis and blackcurrant, balanced by more earthy and chocolaty undercurrent, the tannins quite prominent.
