Introduction
The region was first explored by Captain Sturt who travelled down the Murray River in 1829-1830. But it was not until 1969 that the first vines were planted by Wally and Rosemary Tonkin; one acre each of Riesling, Grenache, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines flourished and the first vintage followed in 1972.

Primary Wine Styles

Sauvignon Blanc
One of the wines to bring early attention to Currency Creek; the varietal definition is better than that of other local regions; the wines are with greater delicacy and freshness.

Shiraz
The wines are with elevated aromatics, the palate with elegance and finesse. They are medium-bodied, low in tannin, with Rhone Valley-like spicy fruit.

Cabernet Sauvignon
This variety is well suited to the regions mild climate, producing whole and smoothed wines with clear varietal characterisation. The flavours move from coffee to blackberry to blackcurrant.

Merlot
Not widely planted till now, however it performs very well, with good perfume and varietal character, providing a quality blend with Cabernet Sauvignon.
