Introduction
The name of this region may be new and there is no history of grape growing in the last century, many of its vineyards were established beginning in 1968. The region is above 300 metres, with peaks to 1800 metres, however most of the vineyards are planted between 300 and 500 metres and it is a premium to super-premium wine-producing area.

Primary Wine Styles

Sparkling
Considerable amounts of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are in the making of sparkling wines by Domaine Chandon, Yellowglen and Southcorp. The quantity was adequate reinforcement for Domaine Chandon to establish its own significantly large vineyard in the Strathbogie Ranges in 1994.

Chardonnay
The foremost wine of the region, with a long history. The wines have significant weight and richness, while still showing flavours of stone fruits like nectarine followed by melon and finishing with crisp lemon.

Riesling and Gewurztraminer
Superbly fine, crisp and elegant wines are made from these two varieties by wines that have an international reputation.

Sauvignon Blanc
Tangy, crisp herbal Sauvignon Blanc is produced that show good varietal character.

Cabernet Merlot and Malbec
These are a more marginal offer than the white varieties and wines.
