Introduction
The European settlement of Peel dates back to 1829 when a visionary, Thomas Peel brought three ships of migrants from England for the Peel Settlement Scheme. In 1846 the first mine (lead, silver and zinc) in West Australia was opened.

Will Nairn at Peel Estate started the first commercial vineyard in 1974, with a planting of Shiraz, which remains the flagship variety for the region.

Primary Wine Styles

Chenin Blanc
A popular variety in West Australia's wine regions and it was the first white grape to be planted in Peel. Produced in oaked and un-oaked versions it expands character and depth with short to medium term cellaring.

Chardonnay
Planted in most of the localities throughout the region, characters vary from melon and stone fruit to rich and buttery.

Shiraz
Longest established and most successful variety, predominantly at Peel Estate, which holds an annual Australia-wide Shiraz tasting, a major event in the annual calendar. The style is medium-bodied with sweet, ripe and fine tannins.

Cabernet Sauvignon
Is producing a medium-bodied wine, slightly firmer when grown further inland at a higher altitude area.
