Introduction
Viticulture has been done in the scenic Perth Hills for over a century, but on a very small scale. The longest established of the present-day wineries Hainault goes back to only 1980. None of the ten present wineries crush more than 50 tonnes, one producing merely 30 cases of wine a year.

However, the area is only 22 kilometres from Perth, making it an easy weekend or even a day trip destination.

Primary Wine Styles

Chardonnay
Chardonnay does not disappoint - it is the best white wine coming from the Perth Hills. The style is generous but somewhat tight; some mineral undertones are also evident.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
Frequently blended and produced by the majority of the wineries in the region. Full-flavoured, with chocolate and berry flavours, with earthy tones, the wines are dependable and enjoyable.

Shiraz
Scarcely planted, medium body wines, with gentle cherry fruit flavours and earthy tones.
